It has been six years now that hiking has become one of my favorite hobbies when I am not knee deep into my studies and when I want to be adventurous and feel the fresh air while being in connection with all the nature around me.

My first hiking experience goes back to 2014 and it all started when I decided to join a scout group. I first join the scout group as I was influenced by some friends who encouraged me. It was then a way for me to have a day where I could be away from my studies and all the burden of work and do some extra scholar activities with them.

I had some fun and learned new skills with a group of people who have a lot to share and then I discovered the various activities organized within the scout group and this is where I developed this strong interest in hiking. The most surprising part for me is that I never knew that my first-time hiking at Black River Gorges would have been such a great experience. What I love with hiking is that you do not have to be a natural hiker or especially fit to do it as all we have to do is to enjoy the hike, appreciate the nature and most importantly have FUN.

I had also the chance to go to Rodrigues Island with the group for one week. I went there before with my family and we took a van to visit a lot of places but this time was completely different as I have discovered the beauty of the island by doing a lot of hiking excursions which was amazing. I am not going to lie it was also tiring because we were carrying our hiking backpack all the way but the view was so wonderful and breathtaking that I was motivated to continue and enjoy the hike and this unique experience.

It has been a while now that I left my scout group, but it was not a reason for me to stop hiking. I am also lucky to have a family who will not hesitate to join me on a hiking excursion as they always want to escape their daily routine to spend some time in nature.
